As well as our usual programme of events for secondary schools, Riverbank Arts Centre has been working on an exciting project with a local school. From January – June, we piloted a truncated version of a Short Course in Theatre, with Holy Family School, Newbridge. Out of this, we have moved forward to develop a yearly Theatre Module, which will run within English at Junior Cycle.

Theatre Module with English – Junior Cycle

The aim of this module is to use the resources of Riverbank Arts Centre and its theatre-company-in-residence, to support the students’ learning about theatre. It also aims to teach key drama skills and in doing so promote collaborative learning and confidence building. It is also hoped that the module would promote ongoing links between the students and Riverbank Arts Cemtre. The module introduces students to theatre, through conventional lesson activities, practical theatre interactions and drama activities.
We are delighted, with the feedback from the pilot and that the teachers of Holy Family have requested to continue working with us on this project into its second year, where the module will focus on exploring Romeo & Juliet, through drama activities as well as ongoing interactions with Riverbank Arts Centre.
