Kathleen Lonsdale – A Pioneer of Crystallography
In March 2023 Riverbank Arts Centre opened a new cut exhibition by Maeve Clancy on the life of Newbridge born scientist Kathleen Lonsdale. The exhibition was combined with drawings, lighting and animation designed to take the visitor out of their world and into the extraordinary mind of Kathleen Lonsdale. A graphic novel on the life and times of Kathleen Lonsdale also accompanied the exhibition.
This Autumn Riverbank Arts Centre and Kildare County Council Library Service have come together with Maeve Clancy to present Kathleen Lonsdale – A Pioneer of Crystallography Touring Exhibition.
The new exhibition comprises of six pull-up banners which tell the story of Kathleen’s scientific achievements. The banners will be accompanied by the graphic novel which will be available for free from Kildare library branches. Digital resources included an animation on the science of crystallography, animated and narrated by Maeve Clancy, and a talk by Maeve to Primary School students about how she created her exhibition, recorded in May 2023.

About the artist
Maeve Clancy is an artist who works in cut paper, drawing and story. She creates immersive exhibitions, writes and draws comic books and designs sets for theatre and TV. Her current work includes a graphic novel documenting the journey of Rouba & Noura Merzah from Syria to Ireland.
