An Invitation to Gather, Reflect, and Converse

Join artist Mary-Jo Gilligan for a unique and interactive art event running alongside the exhibition Pattern Recognition: Architectures of Seeing at McKenna Gallery. This exhibition invites us to look again, to question what we see, and to consider the frameworks—both visible and invisible—that shape our view of the world.

In this spirit, Under The Banner Of offers a space for live conversation and shared experience. Rather than a performance or talk, this is a participatory event where you are invited to help shape the dialogue. Mary-Jo will guide the group in exploring ideas and values that matter to us—asking: What ideas move you? What values are your axis?

This event is open to anyone curious about how we see and make sense of the world. Whether you’re an artist, educator, scientist, student, or simply someone with a perspective to share, your voice is welcome.  Come and contribute to a shared exploration of values, patterns, and perception.

Expect a relaxed setting with food, drink, and meaningful conversation. This gathering draws from the philosophy of relational aesthetics—a form of contemporary art that focuses on human interaction and social connection as the artwork itself. Here, the art happens in real time, through the relationships and exchanges we create together.
