Eileen – a sardonic, university drop-out – is back home in Belfast after a failed move to London. She scrapes by working as an unlicensed taxi driver (and a caustic barista). When Shane, who lives in self-exile after his marriage collapsed, calls a taxi, Eileen answers and a surprising connection is made. The pair form a friendship that will change them both.

Prasanna Puwanarajah’s debut feature Ballywalter, written by Stacey Gregg (Here Before), is a bitter-sweet comedy drama about the unexpected connections that can change the course of our lives. Seána Kerslake’s portrayal of the damaged but resilient Eileen is prickly, unsentimental and true, while Patrick Kielty – playing the complex, sensitive Shane – is nothing short of a revelation.
