FELT AN ELF! Santa’s Hand Puppet Helper (10-12 years)

Saturday 25th November, 2023 - 13:00

Book Now

In this fun afternoon, children will learn the basics of wet felting, the world’s oldest form of textile making. They will also go home with their very own felted elf hand puppet, a perfect opener to the Christmas season!

Forget the elf on the shelf this year and give your kids the gift of handmade, creativity and fun. This is a fabulous introduction to a very sensory craft, suitable for beginners. There will be plenty of soapy bubbles and soft fibres. Roll up your sleeves and rub a dub dub!

Tamzen (former chairperson Feltmakers Ireland and textile professional of 20yrs+ experience with experience teaching in schools as well as herding her own 3 free range kids) will introduce the group to the basics of wet felting, then move on to felting around a resist…  each student will create their own hand puppet elf in wool felt. A character to keep in your pocket, to play with and remind you that Christmas and Sparkle are just around the corner.

About the Artist

Tamzen Lundy is a textile professional of 20+ years’ experience. She has worked on all sides of retail, design and manufacturing in the fast fashion world. Over time Tamzen learnt that this was not a sustainable model, neither good for the people or the planet. She turned her back on these fast processes to return to her first love, textiles and making art a little more slowly. She works from her home in Maynooth, surrounded by fibre, up to her elbows in soap lather, dancing to the radio, chatting with the kids and whooshing the cat off the table!
