In this series of four early years music-making sessions with Ceol Connected’s Dr. Thomas Johnston,  childcare educators will explore a range of ways of bringing music-making into young children’s everyday experiences.

Thomas will explore connections between music-making and the Aistear framework, and share his own approach to facilitating music-making workshops which includes:

  • developing aural awareness through listening play
  • developing vocal awareness through song play
  • developing kinaesthetic awareness through movement play
  • exploring and experiencing instruments
  • multi-sensory musical experiences

Participants will learn new songs and musical activities, will experience the joy of making music in lots of different ways, and importantly, will increase their confidence in facilitating fun music-making experiences with children in early years settings or at home.

Ceol Connected
works with a diverse range of artists, schools, third-level institutions, and arts organisations to design and implement innovative and highly engaging music education, community music, and arts-in-education projects. In recent years, they have worked with organisations such as the National Concert Hall, Music Network, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, Helium Arts, The Ark, Music Generation Partnerships, and Early Childhood Ireland.  Traditional musician (uilleann pipes and whistles), composer, educator, and researcher, Thomas Johnston’s  work lies in those spaces between Irish traditional music, performing arts for children and young audiences, theatre, and community music.

Teaching Tunes for Tiny series begins on Tuesday 19th May at 11am. Follow on workshops are at 11am on 26th May, 2nd June & 9th June. These workshops will be conducted online (on ZOOM platform) and will each be an hour in duration. Ideally, participants will take part in all four workshops in the series.  These workshops are free, but a fully refundable deposit of €20 will be requested at time of booking to secure a place.

Presented by Ceol Connected in association with Riverbank Arts Centre and Kildare County Childcare Committee.
