Led by Italian-Argentinian singer and pianist Annalisa Monticelli, this international ensemble features some of Ireland’s most respected jazz performers including Leopoldo Osio (Venezuela) on piano and Steve Welch (USA) on saxophone and flute.

Annalisa’s roots in Argentina infuse her vocals with a deep understanding of Latin American music, honed by many years singing across the continent. Meanwhile, jazz pianist Leopoldo’s immersive experience in Brazil enriched their endeavour with authenticity, honed through years of study and performance. Steve’s natural affinity with South American musical idioms provides fertile ground for his virtuoso playing on sax and flute. Aidan’s nylon string guitar lends captivating rhythmic textures to the overall sound, while the rhythm section of Derek Whyte on double bass and Brendan Doherty on drums and percussion provide a pulsating and joyous backdrop

Passarim interpret various iconic composers from across the rich and diverse tapestry of South America musical idioms. Along the way they pay homage to Tom Jobim, Roberto Menescal, and Astor Piazzola among others, with a setlist that shifts fluidly between such genres as bossa nova, samba, tango and bolero. After recording a tribute album to the timeless compositions of Tom Jobim last year, the group devised a show entitled Echoes of The South which was extremely well received at the Castleknock Music Festival.
