VISUAL ART: A Hint of Gray – Della Cowper-Gray and Brad Gray
Thursday 10th March, 2022 - 09:30 - Saturday 30th April, 2022 - 17:00FREE
This combined exhibition offers a glimpse into the work of artists Della Cowper-Gray and Brad Gray – Daughter and Dad – and features a small selection of their recent work.
Della Cowper Gray’s portrait of her Dad recently won the ‘Overall winner’ category in the Zurich prize held at the National Gallery of Ireland and the Crawford gallery in Cork. Her favoured medium is Prisma colour pencil which she builds in subtle layers of colour and tone to a high degree of realism.
DELLA says: ‘This is a portrait of my father the artist, observing the world around him. It is a different world now since Covid 19 and artists have been greatly affected. I wanted to convey that struggle through his expression. The world has changed and so too has the world of the artist.’
Brad Gray’s dark surreal oil paintings convey a world not entirely of our own, which is inhabited by quirky and edgy characters that somehow share similar emotions to us.He has partaken in numerous exhibitions and residences around the World including the Swatch Art peace hotel in Shanghai and recently with the Copro Gallery in the LA Art show in California. BRAD says: ‘My works range from small, atmospheric oils to large, more complex compositions. The smaller pieces focus primarily on texture, creating mood and movement through the use of strong tonal ranges and loose brushstrokes. The larger works are often theatrical in nature depicting an array of peculiar characters thrown together in a world not entirely of our own.’
This is the first time the pair of Kildare-based artists have exhibited together and it is but a small hint as to what they do.
Exhibition opening will take place at 6pm on 11 March, all welcome.
