Raise Your Spear is an LGBTQ+ allyship project designed by writer and artist Dani Gill. Based on a poem from her second collection (Lessons in
Kindness, Salmon Poetry, April 2023), the project involves a workshop and discussion around identity and community. Join an exploration of
what it means to speak, to be, and to accept.
Participants will be given a ‘base’ spear, in the workshop to engrave and customise. While all spears will be the same size, they will be personal
to the maker, and the words engraved on them will be unique to the self-expression of the individual. Come with an open heart and curiosity and mindfully reflect on the themes of belonging and self-expression.
Join Dani Gill in the McKenna Gallery from 1pm to 2.30pm for some conversation and admiration of the spears created during the Raise Your Spear workshops.
