Astrid Walsh was born in Germany in 1976 but grew up in Ireland. She holds a BA (Hons) in Sociology from Trinity College, Dublin (1998) and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design & Technology, Dublin (2005). In 2008, Astrid received the Arts Council Travel and Training Award and the Laois Patronage Award from Laois County Council which gave her the opportunity to travel to Canada to work with a dancer and create a body of work around this experience. The resulting exhibition Beloved, all is well was held in County Laois last year. Inside the Box is the continuation of this work. Beloved looked at relationships between people. Inside the Box casts its eye on their relationships with spaces, be it physical or psychological.
Astrid describes her art practice as quite diverse in her continuous attempt to make sense of the world and her own place in it. Visual themes that recur generally help her to understand a little more, like the gradual piecing together of a puzzle. Her work is held in private and public collections including Kildare County Council.
