Philadelphia Here I Come
Gareth O'Donnell, the tender-hearted protagonist of Brian Friel's "Philadelphia, Here I Come!," is preparing to flee the dreary round of life in Ballybeg in which he grew up for the big time in the U.S. of A.
He's leaving behind a failed romance with Kathy Doogan and a grimly taciturn father, but he'll take with him his best pal, the secret self whose presence has consoled and distracted him through the long, lonely years. Gareth has accepted his aunt's invitation to come to Philadelphia. Now, on the eve of his departure, he is not happy to be leaving Ballybeg.
Open Door Theatre was formed in the Millennium year 2000 and is based in Laois is in the heart of the Midlands. It has successfully performed plays by Irish and International playwrights every year since then.
